Due to my having a National A licence (ironically only applied for so I can do the National Wiscombe) I was unable to run with the usual ASWMC class C1 runners in the National B event. I therefore found myself in a class of my own! This meant that I was awarded a 1st in class trophy.

Now, it's always nice to get a trophy and it is very generous of the club to give a 1st in class award even if there is only one competitor, but I always feel a bit of a fraud going up to collect it Rolling Eyes

I wonder if it would be better to give a 1st in class award only if there are at least 2 drivers in the class, as then the award winner has "earned" it.

However, on the other hand, drivers find themselves in a class of one through no fault of their own and they may well have put in a blistering performance Twisted Evil which would have earnt them an award if someone else had been in the class.

Normal amalgamation of classes often doesn't work well (e.g. putting say a Mini in with Westfields etc.), so I wonder if we could put all drivers who are the only drivers in their class into a single "Amalgamated" class and then base the result of that class on a comparison of their times compared with the record for their usual class?

Discuss...

I too find my self on my own, in Class C5 (Mod Prod Kit Cars up to 1400cc), quite often. Usual amalgamation for me is with C6 & C7 (1400-1800cc & over 1800cc).
Your idea Steve, is a good one in my view. The bogey time system could be employed to decide the Class result. So whoever beats their usual Class bogey time by the greatest amount, wins the Class. This system works well enough for the Championships, so why not at a Class level now and again.
