Due to my having a National A licence (ironically only applied for so I can do the National Wiscombe) I was unable to run with the usual ASWMC class C1 runners in the National B event. I therefore found myself in a class of my own! This meant that I was awarded a 1st in class trophy.
Now, it's always nice to get a trophy and it is very generous of the club to give a 1st in class award even if there is only one competitor, but I always feel a bit of a fraud going up to collect it
I wonder if it would be better to give a 1st in class award only if there are at least 2 drivers in the class, as then the award winner has "earned" it.
However, on the other hand, drivers find themselves in a class of one through no fault of their own and they may well have put in a blistering performance

which would have earnt them an award if someone else had been in the class.
Normal amalgamation of classes often doesn't work well (e.g. putting say a Mini in with Westfields etc.), so I wonder if we could put all drivers who are the only drivers in their class into a single "Amalgamated" class and then base the result of that class on a comparison of their times compared with the record for their usual class?
