Can anyone advise me?
I have recently joined the club with my son James.
James is currently racing karts in Senior Rotax, he also has done some marshalling at Wiscombe, Longleat and on the Sunseeker Rally.
He is very keen to get into competing in cars - initially on hills and sprint events and eventually on circuits. However at the age of 16 how can he gain the driving experience he needs? He can drive a kart with automatic clutch and his car control is good in wet or dry but he has little experience of manual gears / clutch control etc.
Does the club have any kind of youth training scheme?
What we need is a long private road or maybe a large carpark / airfield or something of this sort.
He can hold a speed licence at 16 but as yet would struggle even to get off the start line without stalling!
There must be others out there in this situation - can anyone advise please?

In Exeter there is a driver training centre aimed at learners which has a mock road system. As far as I remember it is open to the public and allows drivers from the age of 16. Obviously this is aimed at learning to drive on the road and is not intended as a mock hillclimb event!!
